Back to Our Boots

Building a Life with Room to Breathe

Orange Peel Bird Feeder

This simple little orange peel bird feeder was a nice preschool approved project created out of happenstance. A jar of almond butter I ordered arrived damaged and not suitable for us to eat. I did not want to throw it out and decided to find a way to utilize it. After taking a look around my kitchen I decided to mix the almond butter with some bird seed I had left over from this project and create a little bird feeder. We used supplies I had on hand. It was a nice simple activity for my preschooler.

Easy Orange Peel Bird Feeder

YOU WILL NEED:

– Oranges

– Bird Seed

– Almond Butter (or Peanut Butter)

– String

– Needle

WHAT TO DO:

Cut the oranges in half and peel them. Using the needle and string create a hanging container to hold the seeds. Mix birdseed and the nut butter together. Fill the cups with the mixture. I then put the oranges in the freezer for a few hours just to help hold everything together. We have had several unusually warm days in a row and our little feeders are holding up nicely.
