We tend to talk about the weather as if it was boring, dull, something mentioned only when casual conversation does not easily lend itself to other topics. But the weather determines everything about our basic survival. Are we warm enough? Do we have enough to eat? Can our livestock survive the winter? Can we produce and harvest enough crops to make it through the next winter? Weather is a big deal!
We have had an exceptionally mild winter this year. I cannot recall a winter this warm, with so little snow. And then, just as we entered March, we got our first real winter storm of the year. I have to say, it caught me off guard.
One of the amazing things about living on this little farm is the constant reminder of the incredible forces of nature and world we live in. There is no choice but to live in the here and now. Sometimes the sun shines, and sometimes it snows. Either way, there are chores to be done and beauty to appreciate in this amazing place I am fortunate to live.
