It turns out, waiting on a doe to kid is almost as anxiety-inducing as waiting for your own baby! We first exposed our does to a buck in early November and this little guy finally made his appearance this afternoon! I knew Sparky was getting close and have been checking her overnight, but she was so considerate to wait until the middle of the afternoon.
As it is common for goats to have two kids each, I was expecting four babies. As it turns out, this little guy is it! Pearl our other goat, did not get bred. While I was hoping for more, I am thankful that little guy and his mama are both doing excellent. Sparky is proving herself to be an excellent mother and baby boy was up and nursing right away. Our doe is a Spanish Meat Goat, and the buck is a Pagora Saanen cross. So this guy is a little of this and a little of that. We have goats primarily for weed control. They are basically pets and I like them! So I was not terribly picky about the breed. I am having trouble getting much accomplished because truth be told I just want to hang out in the barn and snuggle this cutie.
