Building a Life with Room to Breathe

The Secret Sauce

Rice bowls using this sauce are one of my go-to last-minute dinner plans. I cook the rice and beans using an instant pot and then whip up some sauce. We almost always have all these ingredients on hand, my kids absolutely love them, and they are made with ingredients I feel good about.

This sauce is equally delicious on scrambled eggs, roasted veggies, baked potatoes, or anything else that needs a little zip of deliciousness.

A little note about the “recipes” I share. I am not a chef or a cookbook author, or anyone even remotely resembling someone who should be writing recipes! But I am a busy mother of three who is passionate about eating whole food. I share recipes like this because cooking real food can be overwhelming. It can seem really hard. I share the things that work well for me and my family with the hope it will give someone else who wants to feed their family nutritious meals without a lot of fuss a little inspiration and make at least one meal easier.

The Secret Sauce

1 Cup Cooked Garbonzo Beans

1/3 Cup Nutritional Yeast

1/2 Cup Almond Meal

1/2 Cup Olive Oil

1/2 Cup Lemon Juice

1/2 Cup Water

1-2 Tablespoons Minced Garlic

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1 1/2 Teaspoons Curry Powder

1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano

Combine all ingredients and blend in a blender until smooth, creamy, and delicious. Feel free to eat a spoonful right of the blender just to be sure it is as good as I say it is.

This recipe is inspired by Yumm Sauce, the delicious, cannot get enough, signature sauce at Cafe Yumm. If you live in the Pacific Northwest you should absolutely hit up this spot to grab a quick, wholesome bite to eat.
