This blog is the story of how my family made the decision to put on our boots and build the life we had always dreamed of living.
We moved out of a beautiful house and into a tiny rundown farmhouse. And so began my family’s journey to once again find ourselves at home. After renovating the little house, we had the opportunity to purchase a neighboring property and move into a larger home. This blog is a collection of stories and ideas about the decisions we have made for our family. This lifestyle is not right for everyone, but it is right for us. We focus on eating whole food and producing as much of it as possible. We try to live the “simple life” which is usually anything but simple.
I am far from an expert homesteader. The reality is I am new. I am learning. Sometimes I fail, but I am proud of my efforts. I am proud of the courage it took to take this project on. I believe in the knowledge of my grandparent’s and the power of hard work.
About Me: I am, by trade, an attorney but above all else, I am a mother. We have three incredible, young children. My husband and I have been married for 12 years. It is not always perfect, but we love each other and neither one of us is afraid of hard work. I am a lover of wildflowers, puppies, the mountains, a cool bubbling stream, and a good project. Nothing calms me down faster or helps me think straighter then stepping outside for a breath of fresh air. I am the kind of person that loves the changing seasons, a summer thundershower, and the feeling of stiff muscles after a hard day of work.
About Handy Husband: My husband and partner, is an adventurer, a farmer, a creator, a problem solver, and a modern mountain man. He is incredibly funny. While he tends to listen more than he talks, he always knows just what to say to get a laugh out of a room full of people. He loves hunting, cutting firewood, building things with his hands, solving problems, and his family. He is also incredibly smart and happens to be a successful professional.
About the Girls: E.J., our oldest is creative, funny, and has a magnetic personality. Her laughter fills the room. Even as a baby she was drawn to animals and nature. She has an untamed spirit. Gigi, our younger daughter is a thinker. She is fiercely independent. She is resourceful, tidy, and determined through and through. Her nature is careful and cautious, and I have been truly amazed by how her thoughtful manner and slow movements quickly win over the trust of our farm animals.
About the Babe: Baby brother is the newest addition to our family. He has absolutely stolen the hearts of his older sisters and we couldn’t love this happy little guy more.
About the Animals: Rounding out our little family is a lively inquisitive English Cocker Spaniel named Mabel. We have cows, goats, chickens, and pigs. This journey is still at its beginning and we are always changing and adjusting to the cast of farm animals. We have a herd of almost 40 Angus cattle. Our efforts focus on red Angus moderators. These animals are midsized and finish well on grass.

Nearly four years ago, I set out to change my life. I needed room to breathe, and that is exactly what I intend to do. I am on a mission to build a life for myself that is exactly what I need.
